From AI battles and concert setbacks, here are four of the music industry stories you need to know this week.

This Week In Music: Billboard India’s Essential 4

The music industry never stops. From new labels to new music, there is always something for listeners to look forward to. Billboard India helps you cut through the noise and pick the essentials you need to know to stay up to date.

1. The battle between labels and AI-generated music, the Anthropic edition

Universal Music Group, Concord and ABKCO first sued Anthropic in October 2023, alleging that chatbot Claude was trained on the lyrics of hundreds of songs without permission to generate competing content that harms songwriters. Anthropic told a US court on October 21, 2026 that the chatbot’s training on lyrics comes under “fair use,” a doctrine that allows copyrighted material to be used without permission when the use is “transformative”. It says there is no evidence Claude has reduced demand for human-written lyrics. A ruling is still awaited.

2. Sidhu Moosewala’s hologram tour Signed to God postponed indefinitely

The remaining dates of Sidhu Moosewala’s posthumous “Signed to God” hologram tour have been postponed indefinitely. Balkaur Singh, the late artist’s father, announced the decision through an Instagram story. He cited the situation in Punjab and the protests that followed the murder of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota, who was shot dead at a medical store in Mansa on October 13. The tour opened with two sold-out Canadian shows in Toronto and Vancouver.

3. Spotify takes action against 125M+ ‘AI slop and spam’ tracks on the platform

A year after laying out its “human artistry comes first” approach, Spotify has removed over 75 million ‘AI slop and spam’ tracks and taken more than 50 million out of recommendations this week. As per the company, to detect the fakes, they track listener engagement levels, irregular upload patterns, and third-party AI detection tools – while acknowledging that detection has limits and will only get harder as generative AI evolves. The company adds that tracks with indicators of a high probability of being AI-generated are 10 times more likely to fall below its 1,000-stream royalty threshold – a feature in place since 2024 – making it harder for bad actors to siphon royalties from real artists.

4. After much uncertainty, Diljit Dosanjh’s Delhi concert on Oct 30 is back on

Diljit Dosanjh’s Delhi opening show for the India-leg of his Aura Tour was in limbo for nearly 24 hours, after reports emerged that Delhi Police had withheld security clearance for the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium concert. Last week, he also preponed the concert date to October 30 (from the earlier announced November 1), after a public appeal to the singer by Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney to avoid performing on the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
On October 23, ticketing partner BookMyShow dismissed all reports of a cancellation, confirming that the concert would go ahead as planned since Delhi Police had granted permission. Dosanjh has also signalled that the show is on track, sharing an Instagram Story saying “7 days to go.”
